A group of biology, visual design communication, electronical engineering,<\/span> and<\/span> commun<\/span>ication science <\/span>students <\/span>from Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) <\/span>has successfully secured funding<\/span> from Program <\/span>Kreativitas<\/span> Mahasiswa<\/span> (PKM) – Video <\/span>Gagasan<\/span> Kreatif<\/span> (VGK) 2025<\/span>. Indonesia is home to one of the largest coral reef habitats in the world. <\/span>However, many of these reefs are under threat due to human activities and climate change.<\/span> Conservation efforts are often challenged by the vastness of the ocean and the difficulty of accessing deep underwater areas.<\/span><\/span> To address this, the students proposed using LiDAR, a laser-based mapping tool that can scan the ocean floor and produce high-resolution maps<\/span>,<\/span> to visualize and <\/span>monitor<\/span> coral structures without needing to dive.<\/span><\/span> In addition, soundscape technology<\/span> is also used<\/span>, which involves placing underwater microphones (hydrophones) to capture sounds made by fish and other marine life.
