A talented group of UPH students, called Pemantau Permata Laut (PeLaut), has officially qualified for the prestigious Pekan Ilmiah Nasional (PIMNAS) 2025 competition. This incredible milestone was achieved after their innovative proposal received funding from Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) 2025. Their project combines science, technology, and storytelling to address one of the planet’s most critical environmental challenges: the protection and preservation of our marine ecosystems, especially coral reef ecosystem.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The center of their project is an engaging video that explores how advanced technologies like LiDAR (laser-based scanning) and soundscape (monitoring underwater sounds) can be used to track the health of coral reefs. Coral reefs are the rainforests of the sea and keeping them alive is vital for global biodiversity. By translating these complex scientific methods into an engaging and visually stunning narrative, the student team is proposing an alternative way to easily monitor the coral reef ecosystem. To maximize their impact, the group is also running a dedicated social media campaign on Instagram where they share easy-to-digest infographics and deeper dives into how these methods work.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
