Workshop on Solar Energy as A Green Energy to Combat Global Warming for Students of SMAK Tunas Bangsa, Cakung, Jakarta
Global warming is an important issue that already started to affect the quality of life in Indonesia. Energy sector as one of the greatest carbon emitter in Indonesia need to be well tackled. However, such issue is not well understood by young people yet. As one of top ten greatest greenhouse gases emitter, Indonesian young students need to get awareness on the issue and how they can contribute to mitigate it.
UPH Department of Electrical Engineering gave a workshop on the global warming issue and how solar energy can help to combat the problem. The workshop was held on 5 May 2025 for students of SMA Kristen Tunas Bangsa, Cakung, Jakarta. In the workshop the students learnt on how severe the effect of global warming, the cause of global warming, and the role of solar energy in reducing carbon emission. After lecture session, the students also got hand-on experience to design a solar light pole for the premises of their school using UPH Off-Grid Solar Calculator software. After the workshop, the school also prepared a kit for the students to assemble a small solar lamp as their group project.
