“Bioenergy Industry Challenges” Seminar by Aprobi
Students and lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Technology UPH, participate in “Bioenergy Industry Challenge” seminar held by Asosiasi Produsen Bioenergi (Aprobi). The seminar was held on 27 February 2024 at Hotel Mulia, Senayan, Jakarta. The seminar provides information regarding the potential of bioenergy, especially from palm oil, and the challenges of bioenergy in Indonesia. Bioenergy from palm oil is a very promising source of clean energy produced in Indonesia and it can be used for transportation fuel. But it faces some challenges when exported to foreign countries. European countries implemented an international regulation called European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) which limits consumption of products harvested from land opened by deforestation, one of which is palm oil. The implementation of this regulation hinders the export of palm oil as bioenergy by Indonesia.
Aside from palm oil, an interesting development of bioenergy comes from used oil for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel. Used oil for biodiesel is an interesting source of biodiesel as it reduces oil waste and enforces circular economy. But, the development of those bioenergy also faces some problems including price and sustainability issues. Nevertheless, bioenergy must be developed to achieve clean energy in Indonesia.
