Engineering a Greener Future: Civil Engineering Students Visit Bioplastic Factory

UPH civil engineering students and lecturers recently took part in an insightful factory visit to PT Harapan Interaksi Swadaya (Greenhope), a bioplastic production facility. They gained firsthand experience of how bioplastics are developed and scaled up for real-world use. Led by the founder of Greenhope, Mr. Sugianto Tandio, the visit began with a discussion on the innovation and challenges involved in creating bioplastics as an alternative to conventional plastics. Students learned how bioplastics can help reduce environmental pollution while still meeting the demands of modern society.

During the tour, students observed the entire production process, from raw materials to finished products and explored how engineering principles are applied to support green manufacturing. The visit also showcased a range of bioplastic products, sparking ideas on how civil engineering can contribute to a more sustainable future through material innovation. This activity reflects the university’s commitment to integrating sustainability into academic experiences, empowering students to become future leaders in eco-conscious design and infrastructure.
